"I used to feel like I was in a room and in this room there was a number of doors, they all had their own keys but over the years I had hidden the key to all the doors except for one.  The one door I had the key for led me out and into my addiction, which allowed me to go through life without having to open any of the other doors in my room.  The other keys I had hidden, some of them over time I had forgotten about and didn't really care because I didn't feel I could face up to what was behind them.  Some things were bad things that had happened to me and some things were bad things I had done to others. Either way they were things I felt I couldn't deal with. I felt I had no purpose in life and that drugs were the only thing that could help me.  I went to Kickstart with the hope that I could change this view and over time it has.

Kickstart is not about changing you, but about you changing yourself

They have helped me find my keys and as I've been ready to, open the doors one at a time. Bit by bit and door by door my life is changing.  No one has pushed me into opening any door I wasn't ready to. Kickstart have been there to help me with what I'm feeling and how to deal with it. It's nice to have a purpose and the power and confidence to make changes in my life.

"After having a serious addiction to drugs for over eight years, I truly believed that there was nothing else to live for in my life. However, I have now been clean for over six months and coming to the end of my programme at Kickstart.  The main thing I have learned here through these months is that there is so much more to life than drugs.  The choice of keeping clean or not is always there, but it is defiantly worth giving it a go.

" I am a recovering addict. I was addicted to heroin and crack for five long years.  My journey was tough and on detail I shall say no more. I have been through the Kickstart Programme. 

I know the Staff very well and found them very friendly.  Kickstart is what I needed when I got clean because the structured day programme filled the void that drugs had in my using. I formed friendships with the other clients. They were also all going through the pain and emotional struggle of getting clean. Through self destruction I kept relapsing and then trying again, but Kickstart helped me every time. I kept wondering where I was going wrong, so as well as going to Kickstart I attended a twelve step programme (NA).

The foundation of my recovery was through the help of Kickstart.  I learnt a hell of a lot.  But through my twelve step programme I stopped taking all drugs and alcohol and worked the steps.  Now I am clean and sober and have been for nine months.  I am also happily engaged and my life has taken off in new directions which I had never imagined possible! 

My gratitude for my life is a gift and I would never have been here today, clean and sober, if it had not been for Kickstart and NA"
